Compliance Checklist

  • Immediately initiate localization of AI education products to comply with UU PDP Article 72 (child privacy) and Kominfo data localization requirements; complete compliance audit and submit documentation to Kemendikbudristek by 30 June 2025
  • Apply for the technology-based education service license (izin penyelenggaraan pendidikan berbasis teknologi) with Kemendikbudristek—or formalize a licensed local partnership—by 31 December 2024
  • Integrate AI fundamentals, ethics, and Indonesia-specific pedagogical use cases into teacher training content; pass Kemendikbudristek’s CPD certification review by 31 March 2025

English Summary

While not a binding regulation, this statement signals Indonesia’s formal integration of AI literacy into national education compliance frameworks. Key implications: (1) AI competency is now a de facto requirement for teacher certification renewal and school accreditation under Kemendikbudristek; (2) Edtech providers targeting Indonesian schools must comply with UU No. 27/2022 on Personal Data Protection (especially child data), Kominfo Regulation No. 5/2020 on digital platform accountability, and upcoming AI ethics guidelines expected by Q4 2024; (3) Foreign edtech firms require local partnership or an approved technology-based education service license (izin penyelenggaraan pendidikan berbasis teknologi) to operate B2B2C; (4) AI training content must include critical/computational thinking modules aligned with national curriculum standards. Non-compliant tools risk exclusion from the Ministry’s certified edtech list and public procurement.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized the importance of readiness among all societal elements in facing digital transformation by mastering artificial intelligence (AI), including teachers and parents. He made the statement while observing the AI Ready ASEAN Workshop titled Empowering Students for the Future: AI Literacy for a Digital ASEAN in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday. President Prabowo Subianto's administration continues to promote the strengthening of science and technology skills, including AI, as a foundation for national progress. Gibran reminded that adapting to technological developments is not solely the responsibility of the younger generation. Educators and parents are also expected to continuously enhance their own capacities to guide children optimally amid the acceleration of the digital era. “Parents and teachers must not be left behind. Do not be ashamed to upgrade your skills,” he said. He noted that AI mastery opens access to broader information and knowledge. However, this ease must be balanced with critical thinking skills to filter, analyze, and utilize information appropriately. “Critical thinking must remain a priority, and computational thinking must also be prioritized,” he added. VP stressed that technological progress, including AI, is inevitable and should be seen as a strategic tool supporting human activities across sectors, from education and economy to public services. Thus, AI use must be ethical, wise, and functionally appropriate. Proper adaptation by teachers and parents is expected to ensure that the younger generation excels not only technically but also demonstrates integrity, responsibility, and maturity in using technology. Closing his remarks, Gibran reiterated the urgency of capacity building for educators. “Once again, teachers must not be left behind, do not hesitate to upgrade your skills,” he concluded.
