Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s disaster agency BNPB has warned of further landslide risks at the Bantargebang Landfill in Bekasi, West Java, as heavy rainfall is forecast to continue in the Greater Jakarta area. “The weather forecast for the next two days indicates the potential for heavy rain in Greater Jakarta, including the location of the incident,” Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari said here on Monday. He cautioned that “this increases the risk of further landslides due to the unstable stability of the waste pile at the site.” Muhari said the BNPB team in the field has been instructed to strictly implement safety protocols to prevent further loss of life. The landslide struck Zone IV of Bantargebang on Sunday afternoon, killing five people and burying several garbage trucks and food stalls. Four survivors have been rescued, while five victims remain missing. Search operations are ongoing with 336 joint SAR personnel, heavy equipment, and rescue dogs deployed. “On Monday afternoon, we found another victim and immediately took them to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification,” said Desiana Kartika Bahari, Head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office. Identified fatalities include food stall owners Enda Widayanti (25) and Sumine (60), along with Dedi Sutrisno and Irwan Supriatin. Survivors are Budiman, Johan, Safifudin, and Slamet.
