IPOH: Police are tracking down a suspect involved in an attempted cable theft along Jalan Tambun early Friday (March 13) morning.Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said police detected a video uploaded on TikTok by an account owner known as Faiz, a social activist, showing the incident.He said the incident is believed to have occurred at about 4.05am in front of the Optimax Ipoh Specialist Centre.“Based on the video, the suspect is believed to have used a white four-wheel-drive vehicle and opened a manhole cover in the middle of the road in an attempt to steal cables.“However, the suspect is believed to have fled the scene in the vehicle after realising that the act had been recorded by members of the public,” he said in a statement on Friday (March 13).ACP Muhammad Najib said police are actively working to track down the suspect, including gathering information from witnesses and reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the surrounding area.He added that the case is being investigated under Section 379 read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.Those with information on the incident are urged to contact the nearest police station or the Ipoh district police headquarters to assist investigations.
